Why can't I rotate my view when viewed from World USC?

Looking from the top down on my drawing, I need to rotate my view 30 degrees and make the UCS match it.

 

When I go to 3D Preset Views and I change the X axis to 240 and Y axis to 0, it won't accept the change.

 

Now I could just select the entire drawing in plan view/world ucs and rotate everything 30 degrees as a work around, but I'd rather learn to do this the right way.

I don't claim to know whether this would qualify as "the right way", but it is "a way". If you create a viewport in Paperspace, and rotate it by 30 degrees, the modelspace contents witll go along for the ride. Assuming that the default sytem variable value for VPROTATEASSOC has not been changed. If you then use Maximize Viewport from paperspace, you will pretty much have what you are looking for, as the UCS in your modelspace will be rotated along with the viewport.

Simple just draw a line 30 degs and use UCS OB then Plan if wanted in modelspace or if just for a layout do UCS S "MYVIEW" goto to layout UCS R myview Plan then rescale all done. One warning if you draw a line from a known pt to make it 0,0,0 make sure the line has zero Z before UCS OB. We often have multiple ucs's like road1 road2 so as to simply align but have text aligned to the viewport. We do it this way as its simple generally aligning to an existing line object.

I would just use UCS, Z, 30. PLAN, C.

Nice one rkent a bit more UCS, Z, 30, Ucs, S, myview, Plan, C. This way it remembers if you jump back to world.
