Casio47 Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Hello, I'm drawing a simple rectangle, but it is a tiny little dot in workspace, where I have to zoom way way in to see it and my scale is 1:1, and my units are in inches. What am I doing wrong? thanks Quote
Dadgad Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Not using ZOOMEXTENTS, then rescaling your viewport scale appropriately, before locking it? Quote
Casio47 Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 i forgot to say way I have, which is 2013 architect. I think the problem is when I open the application, the default scale setting is 1:100, unlike my 2013 Mechanical, which is at 1:1. How do I set the default scale to 1:1? thanks Quote
Casio47 Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 viewports is not working for me, it still has a very small output. If I draw a 1" line, when I begin a new drawing, that simple 1" line has a dimension of over 1 mile long. So, if I were to draw an actual 1" line, I need to zoom way, way in to see it, or use my zoom extents. If I open a new drawing in AutoCAD Mechanical, and draw a 1" line, it measures out correctly and I can see it on the grid, I need not have to zoom extents to be able to see it. So, in my AutoCAD Architect, the scaling is way way off, but in dwg units, everything seems correct Need help on this issue please Quote
tzframpton Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Which AutoCAD Architecture drawing template are you starting from? Quote
Casio47 Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 Two of them I've been alternating between: Aec Model (Imperial Ctb).dwt and Aec Model (Imperial Stb).dwt Using these two, I've gotten the drawing down from a visual line of 1" to over a mile, and now down to a visual line of 1" to about 50'. Still looking so when i open a new drawing, from scratch, and I draw a 10" x 5" rectangle, I dont have to zoom way way in to see it. thanks Quote

Um, AutoCad cannot know how big you want your drawing area before you open the program. The zoom wheel is a way of life. You will have to do it like breathing, and about as often, and without even thinking about it. Get used to it. What happens if the last time you saved the drawing you left it zoomed into a section of modelspace that was only 1/8" high, and closed? Quote
Casio47 Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 I guess what I am trying to say is: On this work computer, I have Factory Design Suite Premium 1. When I open a new blank drawing in AutoCAD Mechanical, and draw a 10" x 5" rectangle, the rectangle is in a good viewing look to it. 2. When I open a new blank drawing in AutoCAD Architecture, and draw a 10" x 5" rectangle, the rectangle is a tiny dot, which I have to zoom way way in. 3. How can I get the Architecture to have the same profile as the Mechanical, so I need not have to zoom way in? Thanks Quote

I'd have to look at both of your templates. I just think that the default Templates have a unique zoom that's been set before it was last saved. Unless I'm missing something. Can you upload both templates for me to inspect? Quote
Casio47 Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 You bet...How do I upload it?....sorry for being a newby Quote
tzframpton Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Probably too big to upload here... do you not have a Dropbox account or anything where you can share files with a public link? Quote
rkent Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Open one of the template files you use in Architectural. Draw the rectangle. Zoom in to where it shows the way you like, erase the rectangle. Save the template and close. Start a drawing based on that template. Quote

Casio47 Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 2016. The UCS X/Y axis does stay there, but the green and red lines do not. the green and red lines come back into view if I zoom way way out. thanks Quote
rkent Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Casio47 - You are using the grid so draw the rectangle close to 0,0, if the lines don't show pan over and up just a little bit, then same the file. Most don't use the grid anyway after getting used to the program, if ever. You may find it easier to work without that on anyway. Quote
