qball Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 autocad 2007 - i use lots of blocks and xrefs in my plans of apartment buildings. i will overlay the architectural plans as an xref and unload and reload as necessary (not to be confused with xref - overlay). since switching to acad 2007 i'm finding that when i go to the xref dialog box it's grey (instead of white and i can't change the xref's) when i type xref in the command line this message appears: EXTERNALREFERENCES command not allowed during reference editing but i don't have any references being edited at the time. i can do any other functions normally not allowed while reference editing. i save, close the file and reopen and it's fine again for a while. anyone have this or have a solution to the problem? tzframpton Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 are you doing this while in the middle of editing a block? if so type REFCLOSE and then try it. Quote
qball Posted March 5, 2007 Author Posted March 5, 2007 no blocks or references are being edited at the time. refclose brings up the same message as before (EXTERNALREFERENCES command not allowed during reference editing). it's strange. Quote
qball Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 anyone had this problem (solution) yet? Quote
fuya_inc Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 To the top! Acad 2008 Same issue as the OP. REFCLOSE says nothing is checked out for editing. Close and re-open the drawing and everything is back to normal. But why does it happen in the first place? Quote
qball Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Just switched to Acad 2010.... same problem. Any other ideas on solutions in the last while? Quote
Coosbaylumber Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Seems like one of your parent drawing files or an XREF one has a "Read Only" attribute to it. Which may not be your fault. Got to get rid of them before proceeding. Wm. Quote
