fitimio Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 What i am trying to do is make the fan into a 3D object. Currently it is set as a "block" meaning 1 object. Is there anything i can to to it to make it 3D, basically look thicker, and solid. Please post anything, questions or answers. Tell me if i still don't make sense. This is a 120mm fan, i am making a heatsink. Quote
fitimio Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 wow, i didn't mean to make it that big.... sorry. Quote
fitimio Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 Not sure I undertand what u mean. sorry, i rewrote it, can you figure it out? Quote
rgarjr Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Well u can use the extrude command. But if you wanna make it more realistic, like the blades having the twist effect, u need to play with the sweep and slice with surfaces. Quote

MaxwellEdison Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Well, you can't actually extrude the block, but if all you want is a bit of depth, not worrying about blade pitch, etc..., you can explode it and convert one of the blades to a closed polyline and extrude that. You can convert the blade to a polyline either with PEDIT (polyline edit) to join the lines, or you can use the BOUNDARY command. To create a boundary, start the command and bring up the dialog box, where you can choose to create a polyline or a region, either will work in this instance. Next click on the select points button and pick the area inside one of the blades of the fan (or all the blades, your choice). Once you're finished selecting you can right click or hit enter to create the polylines. Then go ahead and EXTRUDE the blade(s) to your desired thickness. If you only did one, select it and ARRAY (polar array) it around the center section to create the rest. Hope this helps. Quote
