blazerspeed Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 -I'm sorry in advance if this has been covered before, but I used the search function to no avail.- So my company recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2009 MEP from AutoCAD 2007 and for the most part it wasn't a big deal. The major problem I keep running into is when I try to work in 3D, specifically, rotating objects in 3D. I will attempt to explain this as best as I can, I am drawing a C-Channel in planview to start, extruded it, made all my subtractions, unions, etc. I changed to a side view, and then tried to rotate the entire thing around a point, but it was still being rotated around the point as if I was looking at it in plan view. I can not find a way to change this, and I have never had this problem in other versions of autocad. The same thing happened when I attempt to mirror the object in a different view. Instead of mirroring the object against the point I've selected, in the view I'm in, it is mirroring the object around that point on the Z-Axis. This is really annoying, and is truly slowing me down. If anyone has an answer or a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated! -Derek- Quote
rgarjr Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Although you can use the regular 2D edit commands, u can take advantage of the 3d rotation and mirror commands. Quote
Patrick Hughes Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 The problem is the UCS is not "plan" to the current view. After switching to the view you are interested in type UCS V. My suggestion is to always keep your UCS icon on and establish the habit of looking at your UCS icon when performing an operation. It is likely that when you updated some UCS variables are no longer set to what you were accustomed to. Review your help file regarding the UCS variables - an easy way to search for some of these is type "setvar" at the command line, then "?" then "*UCS*" Quote
Bala_elec Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Im just confirming what Patrick stated, despite what view you are currently working in (right, left, top, bottom) in order to rotate the object on what your refering to the "z" axis you must chnage the UCS to "view" every time you swich views. This can be done by typing UCS in command line and then picking the view option or by utilizing it on your tool bar/ or ribbon tab Quote
