Hey guys this is my 1st post so please bare with me.

I Have Autocad 2009, I'm running XP 2 GB Ram, 1TB Hard Drive, Core duo

I have been working on a Complex 3D Drawing for the past week or so and as of last night everything was working great.

Today when I went to open the file it started off fine and I can see the preview just fine but then when it gets to 99% it locks up for about 20mins.

Once it finally loads the last complex piece I finished last night, it looks like 4 large 3d balls (best I can describe it) which is nothing like it really looks.

weird thing is when it loading it looks great. it only changes after its done.

Any Ideas?

Here are some pictures of what im looking at so you understand what im talking about IMG%5D

I have no experiance with 3d but in 2d drawings this things happens sometimes if the point style is set to something other than (.) dot

so try changing point style to none or .

it may work. who knows?

I also do not have any experience with 3D work but my first thought would be: Could your drawing scale have been changed?? If it has it could be blowing your linetypes or shapes out of proportion. I really do not use shape work, really just linetypes, but I do know that when my drawing scale gets changed I do run into issues where I open my drawing and everything looks like a jagged, loopy mesh of linework. I keep my drawings at 1:1 on the norm. However when I blow it out to 1:40 or something like that it really blows my linework out. Just a thought.

Once in a while, I get something similar to what you are seeing, but nothing that extreme. It is usually a circle that continues, or a line or part that extends past a point that I just sliced -- that only shows up in one view.

It only happens once in a while though. The only way that I have found to fix something like that is to re-draw it. I think it may have something to do with a modeling error, such as a face, or solid body that does not intersect properly with another face or is cut wrong.

It sucks to loose a weeks worth of work I know, but you may be able to go back to one of your previous Auto Save files, to see if you can go back to before the problem and see if it is possible to save what you have done.

How do I open a auto save file? Where would I look?

Autosave files only exist while you have your drawing open and they are deleted once you successfully exit the drawing. They are only saved to disk in the event of a crash. The file extension for an Autosave file is .sv$. If you have one, you will need to change the extension to .dwg in order to open it.

can you upload this dwg somewhere to have a look on it?

if not possible to attach here, you can use yousendit.com or 4shared.com i.e.

in the meanwhile. Try to use command "recover" to retrieve the file not opening it. then apply command BREP, audit, purge.

also try to insert this dwg inside other empty (as a external block). then audit, purge and brep.

allways do all this on a COPY of your dwg

I have seen this behavior ever since r2007. I believe it is an ASM error. I turn of solidhist (before starting) and it might only be superstition but I have not seen the problem since.

I have been successful in recovering these files in Inventor and exporting back to dwg. If you can zip and attach the file I'll see if I can recover the dwg.

Thanks a lot for the offer really but I got upset and deleted the object and went about drawing it another way. I needed it done for tomorrow.

I had similar problems while working with AutoCAD 2004; a small spherical surface didn’t stop at the neighbor surfaces and I get a whole sphere. The problem showed only when zooming in and only in the 3D shaded rendering mode. I continued the work; the printed drawing came out just fine.

It's also quite possible that something sketchy was going in with your viewports. After all, model space is basically just a giant viewport.

I'm curious how you created the holes for the object though because that's where the problem obviously lies.. (the problem looks specific to the concave recessed hole openings).

In the future, you could try messing with it to figure out what happened. If it was some kind of error or something, you could have tried using the audit command to fix any errors. Not sure on this one. It looks like something was trying to connect to something else at startup.. (Not sure what. It would depend how this thing was created).
