Hi Guys

A Happy New Year to you all.

I have just upgraded to 2015 over the holidays from 2012, yes I didn't do it ages ago cos I figured everything was working fine so why change. To be honest I was a big coward, there I said it.

Anyway can somebody step me through adding my Custom Hatch patterns from AutoCad 2012 to 2015. I noticed my Hatch Pattern Palette, under Custom, is Empty.:o

Do I just create a Pat folder somewhere for AutoCad to find, I have all my Custom Hatch patterns on a USB ready to dump in the correct place.

If somebody can give me simple step by step, so I don't stuff up anything, I would be very grateful.

you should be able to create that folder and then point CAD to it, or you could search where those file are and point CAD to that. Once you know where they are you can type in options and select the file location in the support file tree.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-install-custom-hatch-patterns-in-AutoCAD.html

EDIT:

Sorry just saw you were looking for a more detailed answer. I would go to the start menu on windows and in the search box i would type in *.pat. and hit enter. If it returns nothing, i would expand your search to include your c: drive. It should pull up you other hatch pattern files. My set up lists the location under the files in the search results. if yours does not you can right click on one of the pat files and click properties. in that dialog you should see the location where those files are stored.

You can either put your custom hatch patterns in that location or you could create a new location. If you create a new location (c:\hatch patterns) you must then point CAD to that folder.

In AutoCAD type in OPTIONS. Select the FILES tab. In the first group "Support File Search Path" you will need to add the location C:\hatch patterns

There is no need to search for the location of acad.pat. Simply go to your command line and type the following....

(findfile"acad.pat")

...then press the Enter key. AutoCAD will return the full path to the file location. It's that easy.

Hi Remark

I did exactly as you said in the command line, and it came back with the full path of the acad.pat location.

Only problem is, when I went to this full path location in explorer ------etc etc etc autocad 2015\r20.0\enu\support\ there is no acad.pat there in the support folder, I can't understand it,

and I have no hidden files. Should I just create the folder acad.pat in the support folder and dump my hatches in there?

Hi Guys

Just an update, I created a folder called Hatches in the support folder, and dumped all my hatches in there.

I then went to AutoCad in Options-Files-Support file search path, and added the full search path to the Hatch folder.

All good and working, I'm happy. But I still don't understand why I couldn't see acad.pat in the support folder in explorer, when the Find File search pointed me there.

Anyway all good, I was starting to get a bit hot under the collar as it's currently 36c and the Aircon just stopped.

Thanks for the help guys.

Happy New Year D
