blatz.boy Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 In my reflected ceiling drawing file, I've inserted the base sheet as an xref. All objects display as they should for a reflected plan, but I need to add hatching in various rooms and when I do, it picks up the boundary for the door swing as a hatch boundary, even though it's not displayed. As a comparison, I changed the display in the base file to be a reflected plan, and when hatching it doesn't detect the door swings as a hatch boundary (preferred). Can anyone explain why this is occurring? Thanks Quote
RobDraw Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 A reflected ceiling plan typically does not show doors. On a floor plan, the door is usually shown open. No boundary for the hatch until it reaches the door and door swing. Quote
rkent Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 You will need to post in the Architecture forum rather than the AutoCAD General forum. You might stand a better chance of finding someone using Architecture there. Quote
blatz.boy Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 RobDraw, thanks for your response and you are correct. My reflected plan doesn't show the doors, just the opening in the wall with the header as would be seen if looking up from a 42" height aff. This is the reason for my question. The 90 degree door swing still exists in the drawing, it just is not displayed in the reflected plan. The plan containing the xref detects the door swing as a boundary while hatching, even though it is not displayed. However, if I go the the base plan and perform the same hatch, the swings are not detected, which is what I'd like to accomplish in the "child" drawing. When I created the "child", I simply did a "save as" from the base file, cleared the drawing and inserted the xref, and began my notation. So at least I know the issue isn't due from the two files being created from a different template. Any other thoughts? Thanks. rkent, I've posted to the Vertical Products forum in the past and never received a response. I agree, the Vertical Products forum is the more appropriate location, but as I look at the forums of those currently viewing, there are 110 for General, and 1 for the Vertical. Thanks. Quote
RobDraw Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Yeah, in my experience hatching using XREF entities as boundaries can be troublesome and cause hang-ups and/or crashing. It is something I avoid at all costs. Draw your own boundaries. Quote

I have always found AutoCAD's hatch ability to be honestly pretty crap and have had to find work around's. Polyline boundaries always fix the issues that 'Pick a Point' create. Quote
