miroslav_s
Hi, I have been trying to make a hole in a wall (wall style “standard”) with no success. I tried commands like opening, extrude. The thing I am trying to do is this: I have I glass block that I want to put in my wall. I tried two things. 1. If the wall has the same width as the glass block why do I get this result? As you can see the glass block is not showing correctly: http://prntscr.com/9nwb1y and another angle http://prntscr.com/9nwbjs 2. How do I make the hole in wall (standard wall style) that has shape like this: http://prntscr.com/9nwgv3 I can use pressnpull command on a typical 3d solid object and make a hole but not on a wall (standard wall style) http://prntscr.com/9ny7d1 , http://prntscr.com/9ny8ai Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance Edited January 9, 2016 by miroslav_s
ReMark
What program are you using?
miroslav_s
Hi ReMark, and thank you for answering. I am using Autocad Architecture (well learning it ). I tried and tried to make it right but in the end I removed part of the wall to draw a 3d solid object ("wall"), then used subtract command to make holes and then placed those glass blocks inside the holes. See here: http://prntscr.com/9o3oj4 , http://prntscr.com/9o3qos , http://prntscr.com/9o3r6i . But I still would like to learn how to make holes in a "ACA wall" and do the same thing I did here. Best regards to you. What program are you using?
Cad64
Your question has been moved to the "Architecture & ADT" section: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?56-Architecture-amp-ADT You should also change your profile information to show you are using ACA, not Autocad. tzframpton
Side comment: Miroslav, have you given thought to Revit? These types of functions are better carried out in Revit rather than AutoCAD Architecture. Here are some YouTube examples of how easy this is with Revit: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=revit+wall+opening -TZ
miroslav_s
HI tzframpton, Honestly I am thinking about it. In the end I guess I am gonna do it. Found video tutorials on internet about migrating from ACA to Revit Architecture. Do you mind me asking you if you did use from the beginning ACA and then switched to Revit? Is Revit so much better? Been hearing from many people telling me to start using Revit. Anyway thanks again for answering. Best regards to you. Side comment: Miroslav, have you given thought to Revit? tzframpton
Do you mind me asking you if you did use from the beginning ACA and then switched to Revit?I did. A little history... ACA originally "stole" it's intuitive process from Revit once Autodesk acquired Revit back in the early 2000's. ACA basically tried making an AutoCAD based platform work like Revit. Since I'm fluent in both programs, I can tell you first hand ACA makes a good attempt and at first it seems very intuitive, but once you fully grasp Revit, you will discover ACA is archaic and cumbersome. Is Revit so much better?Yes. Not even a debate. Been hearing from many people telling me to start using Revit. Do yourself a favor and make the decision now. I would hate to see anybody start out in ACA and invest time in it only to find out later it was all a waste. -TZ
SLW210
Try use the ribbon or just right-click and Add opening object on the wall or insert the object into the Wall and select the Wall, then select Body Modifiers/Subtractive and Erase. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-architecture/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/AutoCAD-Architecture/files/GUID-D69FA9D8-755D-4DAD-9001-E70F6EF484FD-htm.html As tzframpton stated, don't even waste time on ACA if you plan on going to Revit. miroslav_s
Hi , and thanks for answering. I tried your suggestion! ! ! ! ! ! AND YESSSS it worked. This is what I wanted to accomplish! YES! http://prntscr.com/9os1rc thank you thank you. Regarding me leaving ACA for REVIT... HELL NO AFTER THIS...just joking...well I just started to like ACA and before it I used Autocad for my drawings and found out that ACA is much much faster to use if drawing for example a house, elevations, sections. But I guess since everyone keeps telling me to move to Revit I´m gonna have to do it in the near future. Thanks again for helping me.
