"Best Fit" line using C3D Points

The "Best Fit" line routine currently in Civil3d calculates a line based on a group of points. What I'm wondering about is having 500 points, along the center line of a road and I would like to use the same "Best Fit" line scenario except I would like to minimize the vertices and, if possible, insert curves based on the placement of the points. Anyone think this is possible or have any other input on the matter?

Ok its not alignments but same theory our CIVIL SITE DESIGN takes a go at designing the vertical profile as a start so they have worked out some form of algorithm with straight grades and vertical curves. Send a request to www.civilsurveysolutions.com.au you never know.
