aloy Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Hi everybody, Will unzipping a compressed VLX file expose the code?. As per the following link by Microsoft, it will. Is it true?. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compress-uncompress-files-zip-files#1TC=windows-7 Quote
BIGAL Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Did you try ? Only secret I know is change a cuix to zip you can look inside. Quote
aloy Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 BIGAL, I tried, but it doesn't work the way Microsoft says. Perhaps there is a way to get it. Thanks Aloy Quote
rkmcswain Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Only secret I know is change a cuix to zip you can look inside. With 7-Zip, you can just right-click on the .CUIX file (and .DOCX, XLSX, etc) and choose Open Archive. Saves you the steps of renaming. Quote

Zipping and unzipping a VLX file is not going to make the source code appear out of thin air. What are you trying to "get", or accomplish? Quote
SLW210 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I believe you are confused, VLX is a compiled file, not compressed. Quote
rkmcswain Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I believe you are confused, VLX is a compiled file, not compressed. Not sure if you read the link, but what is confusing is the Note from Microsoft. If you add encrypted files to a compressed folder, the files will be unencrypted when extracted, which might result in unintentional disclosure of personal or sensitive information. For that reason, you should avoid compressing encrypted files. I can see how this *could* be interpreted incorrectly. I'm not even sure what sort of "encryption" they are talking about, but it sure isn't very good if zipping and unzipping it will remove it. Quote
