Beginner, Sketching, Hints to Achieve the Correct Round Line

Hi, everyone.

I am not sure how to make the outer / left round line between the circles to the left in the model.

To me it does not seem to be dimensioned (no radius, and it does not appear to start and end at the circle horizontal points.

I attached my sketch, in which I created the line the following way:

1) Round line tool* FROM LOWER circle centerline to upper (for some reason the opposite is not possible, creates a circle with to big a radius).

2) Then use power trim to cut away the excess small line segment inside the upper circle.

3) Then dimension "round line" to R221.

Does this look acceptable? Are there better ways of doing this? I really appreciate any feedback.

* By round line tool, I mean when you use the line command, but then point over the origin of the line to make it circular.

Well, you sketch is certainly incorrect - the ends of the arcs should be tangent to the circles. (note their positions above and below the circle centerlines)

Having said that, go back to the source and tell them you need the radii of those two arcs. There are an infinite number of "solutions" without the radii.

some general notes for you. When dimensions are applied to Circles keep them consistent, you have some Radius values and some diameter values. There is no visible dimension or relations to locate the two circles on the left vertically in relation to the origin. I assumed they were equidistant above/below the center of the 104.4mm Diameter.

As you suspected and JD mentioned you need to have more information. a location of the intersection of the arcs or their radius value. Is this a school assignment?

Thank you both for your answers. I am relieved to hear that. It is not a school assignment, I just want to brush up on SolidWorks and I try to do some exercises each day from "100 CAD Exercises Beginners Guide" by 12CAD. Disappointed that they make mistakes, but so far it has been ok.

That's one I've never heard of before. I have lots of free tutorials and videos out there and almost a dozen series on infinite skills/O'Reilly for solidworks. If there is something specific don't be afraid to ask

Thank you, shift1313! Really appreciate it!

The true measure of expertise is when you can recognize on your own that there are missing dimensions.

This would be an easy one to "fix" to your own dimensions as a sketching exercise.
