bell531 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Hi, I am trying to email a dwg file that I have added an image to but Outlook says it is too large. I got a jpeg opened it in Microsoft Paint then cropped it and copied it. Back in AutoCAD I pasted into the dwg. This seems to have increased the file size disproportionately. I don't have a version of the dwg from before I inserted the image. I tried PURGE it only reduced minor items. I read on the Autodesk page that if I copied the entities to a new drawing then the entire database would also be copied so the file size wouldn't go down by much. Quote
Cad64 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I don't know why the image would increase the drawing file size so drastically? How big, (file size), is the image? If the drawing file is too big to email, put it on Dropbox and then send an email with a link to the download. Quote
Dana W Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Microsoft Outlook has no file size restrictions. It is your internet provider. I routinely email 20 meg or more with no issues. You should use IMAGEATTACH instead of pasting the picture into AutoCad. Then email the drawing file and the image file in a zip file. That may compress the files enough to slip through. Quote
bell531 Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 Hi Cad64, I managed to create two files to show what I mean. I have put the files in Dropbox the first is without the image and the second is with it. The third is the original un-cropped image. https://www.dropbox.com/s/g2h9kao4rspnmat/Sackville%20As%20Builts%20NEW2.dwg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/fabo2920l5tqo72/Sackville%20As%20Builts%20NEW3.dwg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/3wokrxa63kbfioh/IMG_0001.JPG?dl=0 have a look I can't see where the increase in file size is. I will certainly make some use of Dropbox now I am familiar but I would also like to be able to put smaller images in my drawings. Thank you for any help you can be. James. Quote
bell531 Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 Hi Dana, Thanks for your reply, I see what you mean and I will experiment with that command later. James. Quote
