BIGAL Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 One of the guys was drawing some nut and bolt connections we don't do a lot of structural plans. I mentioned about using a dynamic block that would allow dynamically for the thickness of the fastened materials, the head plus washer and the nut plus washer would be blocks linked via a shaft length. Ideally also a dynamic diameter, so has any one done this? I would appreciate if so rather than reinvent the wheel. I could do in lisp but felt a better task as a dynamic block. Quote
ReMark Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I would think a quick and easy Internet search on the following would give you the answer you seek. "autocad"+"dynamic block"+"bolts" Quote
dbroada Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I had a series of metric nuts & bolts with one block for each diameter. It gets a bit "heavy" if you try and combine diameters although it is possible. For each bolt length you can add a stretch action listing the acceptable values and another stretch for the material thickness. Fairly trivial but I no longer have access to the files or to AutoCAD. nukecad Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 As dbroada alludes: You will find that if you try to just scale nuts/bolts by the nominal thread diameter then the Across Corners/ Across Flats, the heights of the bolt heads, the height of the nuts, and the thickness and outside diameter of the washers will be wrong. It's a common mistake found in block libraries, when the originator just draws one size and then scales the rest by nominal bolt diameter. In some disciplines this does not matter that much, but if you are designing machinery where washer clearance and/or head clearance may be an issue then it can be important. Quote
