Bobzy20 Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) I’m currently using the XREF option to add different drawings to my master drawing. After adding the XREF’s I usually have to go into the XREF file and freeze a few layers as I don’t want them to show up in the master. Several months past and then I get an updated XREF DWG for which I then replace with the old one but then I have to go into it again and try and remember what layers I froze the first time round. Is there a way I can freeze the layers within the master file so I don’t need to keep re-freezing in the XREF after I update it? Thanks Bob Edited April 6, 2016 by Bobzy20 Quote
RobDraw Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Look into the VISRETAIN variable. Setting it to 1 allows you to control the XREF layer properties from within the referencing file and the changes will be retained. Setting it to 0 means that the XREF layer properties are controlled by the file being referenced. Any changes done in that file will be reflected in the referencing files when reloaded. Alternatively, as you are cleaning up the XREF, you can use the layer translator to transfer you layer property settings from the old file to the updated one. Quote
Bobzy20 Posted April 6, 2016 Author Posted April 6, 2016 Thanks, I will look at layer translator option. Quote
