satishrajdev Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Is it possible to create drawing with time limit? Let's say... I have created or modify a existing drawing and kept a time limit for 2 days. After 2 days the drawing should not get opened. Is it possible to do? Tool with not only lisp but any programming language will be accepted but it should do my work. I am ready to pay for this please let me know your views !!! Regards, Quote
ReMark Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Cue theme song from" Mission Impossible." I think the IMF has what you are looking for. "As always, should you or any of your cad technicians be caught or killed, management will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This drawing will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, satishrajdev." Quote
Happy Hobbit Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 "After 2 days the drawing should not get opened. Is it possible to do?" Sure it is... Select the drawing file & press shift + Delete Seriously though, you could always password protect your drawing Quote
ReMark Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Sure, you can password protect your drawing but you better write the password down because if you forget it (and that does happen) you have lost access to the drawing for good. Quote
BIGAL Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I know you can embedd a macro in a dwg but not sure if it can be triggered on opening. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/VBA-projects-embedded-in-drawing-files-create-potential-macro-virus-risk.html Quote
rkmcswain Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Seriously though, you could always password protect your drawing What purpose does that serve? I still, to this day, do not understand the thinking behind that. If the drawing is in your control (on your network), then network permissions can be used to control access. If the drawing is not in your control (you send it out via email or CD-ROM, etc) - then the password offers nothing. Either you do not give the password to the DWG recipient, in which case, why even send the DWG? Or you DO give the password to the recipient, in which case the DWG is fully accessible and can be shared with the world at that moment. The *only* protection password protecting a DWG offers is during transit, in case an email is intercepted or a CD-ROM is lost, etc. --- and that is easily done with a password protected ZIP file. Autodesk must have finally realized this too, because they removed the ability to password protect a DWG file. Quote
ReMark Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I think AutoDesk removed the feature to protect users from their own stupidity. Quote
eldon Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Perhaps you could share your drawing through AutoCAD 360. You would have control over the permissions that you required. Quote
rkmcswain Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I think AutoDesk removed the feature to protect users from their own stupidity. Possibly. Way back before it existed, what people were asking for (Augi wish list, etc) was password protection for certain portions of the drawing (maybe certain layers or entities). I think they misunderstood. I think the same thing happened with the decade+ old wish for "Drawing tabs". Autodesk tried to fulfill this with the "Quick View Drawings" Then of course later just gave us what we were asking for = "Drawing Tabs" Quote
ReMark Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I guess that confirms the old adage of "be careful what you wish for"? Quote
