Evair_Peterson Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 When I want to freeze a layer only in a specific viewport without having to freeze or turn off this layer in modelspace, I use the commands "VP freeze" or "New VP freeze." I need to do something different and don't know: HOW TO MAKE A LAYER BE ON AND UNFREEZED ON A SPECIFIC VIEWPORT , THOUGH IT IS OFF OR FROZEN IN MODELSPACE OR ANY OTHER SPECIFIC VIEWPORT. Is there any way I can do this? Quote
RobDraw Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 No, but a possible work around is to put the objects in paper space. Quote
RobDraw Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 If you aren't already using it, you could possibly do it with annotative scaling and some cleverness. Quote
rkent Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 If you use the Maximize Viewport function then you get what you are after. Quote
Evair_Peterson Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 Thanks for your answers to this topic. The project I'm working on is a complex project involving several disciplines in a single drawing. It is the design of a building, a small hospital. In modelspace is the plant with recitations of the fire fighting system, air conditioning, TV, audio, lighting, automation, and some others. I need to work all these drawings in a single project, so I can match the space of each without interfering in the space of another. And for that, I am creating multiple layouts with some viewports in each. For each set of viewports in each layout, I need to set to ON or OFF different sets of layers. This is the problem I draw directly on layouts, because in another layout I have to use this same design again. And if at some point I need to modify this project, this causes confusion for having more than one design in different places. Regarding the possibility of using the function Maximize Viewport, I can't understand how it can help me solve this problem. Quote
RobDraw Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 You will have a hard time working directly in model space. Your best bet with your current set-up is to work through the viewports. While it sounded good in theory, your method requires some good layer management and a different way of working as you are finding. I think most people that do what you do, utilize XREFs. It's much easier to manage, IMHO. Quote
Evair_Peterson Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 Sensational! I've never done projects using XREF, because I neither knew how it worked. Now that you suggested me to work this way, I researched how XREFs works. And I see that this is a simple and organized way of working and serving completely to my needs. Although I have a layer with the same name in two or more drawings, if I enter these drawings separately as different XREFs in a single project, I will have a separate access to each of the layers of embedded files. In this way I can customize layers filters, and I can work with VPFREEZE and NEW VPFREEZE independently for each viewport created, regardless of the amount of layouts that I create in my project. This definitely helps a lot in the development of safer and more effective way of my projects! Thanks for the sugestion! You helped me a lot! Quote

rkent Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Thanks for your answers to this topic. Regarding the possibility of using the function Maximize Viewport, I can't understand how it can help me solve this problem. Working through the viewport means the layers are set the way you want them. Using Maximize Viewport allows you to see all of the model and move around where you need to but maintain the viewport scale and lets you keep the VP locked, best of both worlds. But, you have accepted the better idea of using xrefs. I would have suggested that but many times posters don't want to hear alternatives and only want their exact question answered. Quote
abraCADabra Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Can't you also just go into the layer properties and choose the item you want to freeze, and select "Freeze or Thaw in Current Viewport"? Quote
