Hi im fairly new to inventor and i was wondering if i could get some opinions on an issues i have been having with my model

i am getting strange polygon like shapes that appear and disappear, generally they occur the further i zoom in and only on certain points of 3-d orbits

im running a core 2 duo with a quadro fx 2700 M on a lenovo w700 laptop (i think this is the main issue due to ibm interface with chipsets etc)

please find pic attached

any comments much appreciated

regards chris

I'd start by checking with Autodesk for a recommended driver for your graphics card. Laptops have a habit of being quirky in this regard especially.

That's twice Maxwell. I've got my eye on you!

Hey its not my fault my "drawings" have 25-30 minute regen times...You try modeling a cabin log by log, regening, and see how many times YOU hit "New Posts" :P

2gb of ram and 512mb onboard gfx card memory

i am trying the autocad preferred driver, previous to this i updated my system with the most up to date drive available from IBM

IBM are a bit of a pain when it comes to drivers i went to the Nvidia site only to be told i need to update my drivers via the IBM lenovo site

I'm betting you just do not have enough "oomph" to push the drawing graphically. A new or updated driver will not solve the problem. Shut down any other programs or processes running in the background and see if that makes a difference.

the thought crossed my mind but i come across this same issue on a 10-15 piece assembly as well

and my model has very little lag time while the image view is being altered

ok had a further look into it and there are no certified autocad drivers, i also performed a driver check within inventor and it supplied similar information so basically until nvidia, autocad and IBM get off their arses seems im going to have to put up with this issue :)

unfortunately i think you hit the nail on the head. maybe you can try adjusting your environment and seeing if that helps. like removing the shadows etc, things that soak up that precious memory. Im dealing with graphic card issues as well. I got a card that works well with one cad package and gives me issues with others, go figure.

What other programs are running concurrent with you AutoCAD session?

You could try maxing out your RAM. What is the max capacity of your motherboard?
