lufc100 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 hi everybody im new to autocad so im looking for a helping hand. I'm currently using 2007 version. I've got a drawing that I have to coordinate and set out. On the drawing is a grid. I know that one of the corners on the grid is to be set to 100, 100. I've tried drawing a single point and seting it to 100,100. This point is drawen on another point on the grid. Then i've tired moving the whole grid so the corner goes to 100,100, but it doesnt let me pan down far enough to get the corner i want. Also I wand to set the grid as millimetres , how do I do that? Thanks & desperate. mmc Quote
chelsea1307 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 go zoom extents, then select the grid, type m to move and select the point you want to be set to 100,100 and the type 100,100 in the command bar. to change your settings to milimeters type units and change the insertion scale to milimeteres. Hope this helps Quote
lufc100 Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 Thanks v much for that chelsea, that sorted out me moving the grid into the right position but i'm still having problems, now that the top right corner of my grid is at 100,100 , if i go 4837.5 south the co ordinate should be (100.000, 95.1625) as i can see from the example grid but on my grid if i go 4837.5 south my coordinate is (100.0000 -4737.4845 ). Have you any ideas why this is? Thanks mmc Quote
chelsea1307 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 did you change you units to milimeters? Quote
lufc100 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 yeah chelsea, when I checked it was already in millimetres, has anybody any idea why the grid the coords are appearing like this on the grid? Quote
eldon Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 On the drawing is a grid. I know that one of the corners on the grid is to be set to 100, 100. I've tried drawing a single point and seting it to 100,100. Perhaps the coordinate of 100,100 is in metres. So when you set this in millimetres, it should be 100000,100000 in the drawing. Quote
Dipali Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 now that the top right corner of my grid is at 100,100 , if i go 4837.5 south the co ordinate should be (100.000, 95.1625) as i can see from the example grid but on my grid if i go 4837.5 south my coordinate is (100.0000 -4737.4845 ). Have you any ideas why this is? Thanks mmc In the unit dialoguebox. tick 'clockwise' under angle & than re try Quote

From the coordinate of 100,100, if you go south 4837.5, your Northing coordinate is (100 - 4837.5) which is -4737.5, exactly as you found out. You cannot mix units Quote
lufc100 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 thanks for that guys , your right about mixing the units, now ive everything in millimetres but i want to change everything to metres, ive tried bringing up the units dialogue box and under the insertion scale selected metres but the drawing is still in millimetres, how do i change the drawing to metres, thanks:D Quote
Dipali Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 thanks for that guys , your right about mixing the units, now ive everything in millimetres but i want to change everything to metres, ive tried bringing up the units dialogue box and under the insertion scale selected metres but the drawing is still in millimetres, how do i change the drawing to metres, thanks:D open a blank drawing. go to tools>options>user preference> & under insertion scale, set source content unit to mililmeter & target drawing unit to meter) Alos make 'insunits' value '6' and than bring in this old drawing there using insert comand Quote
