ok im not confident that im drawing my project in the correct size. i want to draw in meters and have change mu units to decimal 0.0 meters. however, whenever i draw a rectangle or line and type in the length i want it to be, example 20m long, it shows up sooo small on the screen, unless i double click my scroll button. i just want to make sure thats correct, when i double click scroll everything seems the correct size, is that right or does it appear big due to the fact that im zoomed in. just want to make sure everything is the right size.

thanks

The working area of the screen when you start can be rather big. Some people work in millimetres, so the length of their line would be 20000 units. You are working in metres so your length is 20 units. Just zoom into your working area, and to give you confidence just "list" your line and see if it actually gives the length as 20 units. Then work away. Zooming is so easy in AutoCAD with a mouse with a scroll wheel, and remember the working area is infinite, but you work to the zoom level where you can see your work comfortably. :)

thanks. quick thing though, what do you mean by list?

List is an enquiry about an object. You can find it under the menu heading Tools or you can just type "list" on the command line, and you will get information about what entity the chosen object is, its coordinates, and if it is a line, its length and all sorts of info.

Sometimes the information given is so large that it overflows the command line space. You can then press F2 to flip the screen to a text screen where you can see all the information. The F2 key is a toggle and works both ways.

ok ive drawn a 10m line, pressed list and the length came out as 10.00, which i believe is correct as ive changed it to meters.

thanks

Ok, that line will not change its length when you zoom, just its appearance on the screen. Zoom just changes the area of visible working on the screen.
