xref & publish freeze/lockup 2008

Here's the problem in ACAD Architecture 2008:

 

 

When I try to attach an xref, either by typing in _xattach or through the xref manager ACAD freezes/locksup, in task manager it says "not responding".

 

 

This same thing happens if I try to publish: I go FILE, PUBLISH. The publish box appears, as soon as I click the +sheets icon, it freezes/locksup.

This happens in any project I have, I've rebooted, came back the next day, yada yada.

 

HELP!!

start>control panel>add remove programs>right-click on problem acad and select 'uninstall'>repair installation>restart computer
