selecting objects not visible on the screen

Hi all

having a discussion at work with regards to using the selection window.

If it start my selection window say bottom right of the objects I want to select. then with the selection window still open, I zoom to the top left to be more accurate with the objects I am selecting, when I click the button to finish the command, the objects that were previously selected but are no longer visible due to my zooming will no longer be selected despite being within the window at the start.

is there a way around this or is it a limitation of AutoCAD? using AutoCAD 2015.

Yes, that's the way it works. One work-around would be to use the discontinued but still accessible .DSVIEWER command (aerial view).

thank you Sir

as I suspected, but did not know about the .DSVIEWER command. will have a tinker with it.

The aerial viewer was ported over from a company called nth Engine (out of Texas). At the time they referred to it as the Birdseye. The company was bought out by AutoDesk I believe.

This is how AutoCAD has always worked, only recently changed in 2017.1. Use other strategies for making you selections.

Like starting the window where you need to be accurate and zooming out, for one.

Or make sure PICKADD = 1 or more, and select in bunches.
