vweavers Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Typically, I use polylines to connect my drawings, and make template dxf files (AutoTemp Program). However, I needed to stretch my drawing along one axis, so I (for the first time) used BLOCK. Stretched, exploded, and made my changes, saved dxf, and looked ok, however, when the AutoTemp program loaded the file, for some reason, several of the "pieces" are skewed and out of place. The only thing I've done different is used the BLOCK command this time. Am I missing something along the way? PS- and for some reason, I can't turn most of my pieces into polylines?! Quote
skipsophrenic Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Not sure about 1st bit sorry but, PS- and for some reason, I can't turn most of my pieces into polylines?! Is this a 2d or 3d drawing? Quote
vweavers Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 2D drawing. After stretching in BLOCK form, and exploding, how can I now convert the lines into polylines? Quote
skipsophrenic Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Type in the Command bar PE press enter Type in M press enter Select all the lines you want converting, and press enter, you will get this message. "Object selected is not a polyline Do you want to turn it into one? " press Return twice Quote
vweavers Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 When I follow those steps, I select my line(s), it says "one object found", if I hit enter, it says "no valid objects selected". They are stretched arcs or ellipsis that won't convert. Quote
vweavers Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Just made a discovery- I mentioned in my 1st post that some pieces were skewed. What I did was stretch a block, explode, mirror the image to duplicate, and save to dxf. The MIRRORED image is the one with pieces skewed in the AutoTemp program. Quote
dbroada Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 why do you need the BLOCK stage? Can't you just stretch your existing object? Quote
vweavers Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 I'm taking a picture frame profile, and stretching it in the x-axis only. I need to maintain the same ratio on all curves/arcs in that axis. Am I able to do that somehow with STRETCH? (Sorry about any lack of knowledge- I'm self-taught, so my knowledge is limited.) Quote
skipsophrenic Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Have you tried WBLOCK an then Re-inserting setting your own x - y scales? Quote

I think your way is best for an oval frame. Quote
vweavers Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Tried WBLOCK. Didn't do anything for me. Problems still are: 1) after making object into a BLOCK, STRETCHing, EXPLODing, then MIRRORing: the MIRRORed portion of the drawing has several arcs, etc that are skewed, and out of place, when loaded into my AutoTemp program as a .dxf file. No problems with non-blocked objects being mirrored. 2) after STRETCHing as above, attempting to make arcs, etc into polylines. Straight lines work ok. Thanks in advance for any further help! Quote
dbroada Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 can you post the drawing - somebody may have another handle on it. Quote
vweavers Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Attachment: A) is original drawing B) is BLOCKed and stretched 2x in x-axis upon insertion C) is EXPLODED and MIRRORed 80741.dwg Quote
vweavers Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Attached is a jpg of what the skewed pieces look like in AutoTemp (.dxf format) This .dxf looks fine in AutoCad. I can take the same profile, as long as it isn't a BLOCK at some point, and it works fine. Quote
