text tab no longer present in properties toolbar

Hi everyone I am new to your site and thanks in advance for this resource. As of recent when I select a text line it no longer appears in the properties toolbar. there is no text tab or text height, style, color, etc... But if I select a linear dimension in my drawing the text tab shows up with all the subsequent text options below it. How do I get my text to show up in the properties toolbar again? I work with AutoCAD 2002. thanks, ken

At the top of the properties toolbar beside the Quick Select button there should be a drop down which shows the type of item selected, what does this say when you select the text?

It reads, "Text" when I select a text line. If I select the linear dimension it reads, "Rotated Dimension".
