arjun_samar Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 good day.... sir, i just got an autocad 2009.... and when i try putting materials.. some are not in proper place... on a plane box the material is right but when i rotate it.. and 3D rotate the materials are not in the right place.... and somehow on help (F1) on acad... ive got into plannar mapping and etc.... on the object rotated along the xy axis i manage to manipulate the material and it work... using plannar mapping... i just rotated the mapping rezising it, moving it until i got a good result. and base on my observation it looks like the materials are always aligning on xy axis, i think. im not sure... but when i use 3D rotate to a picture frame... the material of picture is not in place... i already use the other mapping method but i just can't do it... please help me solve my problem.... sorry.. my knowledge on mapping is only limited.. here's some pictures.... thanks in advance... Nostromo Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Hi I too would be interested in the solution to this. I have just loaded 2009 and have experienced a similar problem. I have applied a brick finish to a wall in the x,y plane but when I use the same material in the y,z plane it looks more like rough cast concrete. Sorry to be of absolutley no help what so ever but its good to know your not alone. Quote
shift1313 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 i threw this together real quick. i drew the frame and then i drew a 3dface for my "picture" and applied the material to it. i dont know all the specifics of mapping but there are a few different types. obviously the scale of my picture to my frame is off. on my materials screen for adjusting the bitmap, i used Fit To Object. (which is my face with the planar mapping on it) if i adjust the mapping using the grips i can scale it down so my picture is correct. Quote
shift1313 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 i wasnt happy with that so i used a different picture and added a "table" Quote
arjun_samar Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 sory for the vary late reply.... thanks shift... for sharing it, are you using 2009? and for my question one time, i tried it again.... but the problem still the same on a picture frame... even i used fit to gizmo. (fit to object) and accidentally i just tried box mapping and it looks like the mapping is also ratated like the frame... so i just used box mapping then rotate the mapping until the mapping looks like it was on xy plane... then when i render it... just luck... it work.... fit to gizmo... tile scaling u & v is 1.00 and this problem only occured if im using 2009.. but when im using 2007 this problem doesnt showed up.... my knowledge about mapping is only limited so thats why i cant do it right.... shift1313 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 sorry i dont have 2009 presently. I used 07 above. Try drawing a 3dface and use planar mapping on that face. Quote

Got me there I have no idea what box or planer mapping is. Cad has moved a long way since I learned to use it 16 years ago and unfortunally I havent been moving with it. Any tips. I have solved my immediate promlem by drawing the wall as a box instead of a 3d face. Quote
shift1313 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 i took arjuns first screen shot and circled the mapping button in 09 play around with this on surfaces or objects/faces. It will(as far as i know)let you apply material to the mapped face. Quote
