shift1313 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I havent been able to get this to work out properly yet. I have been playing around with modeling a shock for a motorcycle. In the past i have modeled air cylinders and driven the pin constraint to initiate movement, this doesnt work in the dynamic simulation and I can seem to get anything to work. Ive tried using a transitional constraint in the assembly application, selecting the smaller cylinder and the inside of the larger cylinder, but that didnt seem to work. I have tried using the spatial constraints in the dynamic simulation but I cant seem to get that to work right either. It probably has to do with my selection process. Has anyone modeled something like this before? I am able to add a spring/damper in the sim and attach it to points on my clevis ends but i still need the damper rods to stay aligned. Thanks in advance. Quote
shift1313 Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 i was able to get it working. I think im still having some trouble with setting up the axis though. What i did was setup a insert/pin constraint in the assembly and positioned the two components where i wanted. Then i suppresed that constraint and added a spatial joint without moving anything. I set up the joint and locked 5 of the degrees of freedom leaving only the in/out along the shaft free. I set up the bounds but i couldnt get them to work right but ill keep playing with it. the animations from the dynamic simulation are still a bit large but here is a zip file of it. http://filebox.vt.edu/users/maperez/Shock.zip Quote
CAD_e_shack Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I don't know how to send a message directly so I'll post it here, your drawings are great. I'm trying to learn the concepts you used to make the last drawing of the week. (the ducts with the cut aways) Can you explain how you hid features and adjusted the line weights of the solids. I'm assuming you are working off a 3D solid. I posted the same question in the 3D drawing and rendering section. Thanks Quote
stevsmith Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 OH. I think I had an email somewhere from Solid Professor regarding this. Hope the account is still active. Ill have a look for you shift... Pretty positive I archived it. Quote
stevsmith Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Im afraid its gone my friend. Anyway you should join the sp website they send you tips everymonth. well worth it. Quote
shift1313 Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 thanks for looking steve. i think i got it squared away. I just need to use the pick part first option and it simplifies selecting features. cad e shack. im not exactly sure which drawing you are referencing but ill be glad to help you out with what i can. ill check out the 3d section for your question.
