weird tracking dotted line when using line command

when my buddy is making a line some weird system variable is making like a dashed line show up at the same time??? anybody know how to shut this off?

Check to see if he has Polar Tracking enabled.

Thanks Remark... checked that and no it is not enabled... I took a closer look at what it is doing and so what it is is when he is making a line; picks first point; then as he drags his cursor it's like autocad is making a dimension with dotted lines and giving a distance in real time as he moves the cursor... it disappears after he picks the second point but it is very distracting and we cant figure out how to turn it off!! I've been an autocad user for 28 years but never seen this before... hmmmmm...

Looks as if dymanic mode is on. Check sysvar "DYNMODE" and set to 0 to turn off

The F12 key toggles it on and off.
