hello

im new to autocad becouse even for drawing i used inventor but now becouse of many problems like lag when hatching, randomly added constrains or open loops coming from nowhere and other resizing errors i want to jump to something more stable and precise

i had some little basics with drawing and using the commad prompt on some older versions of autocad

now i want to start working on autocad 2009 but i have some questions and problems with setting up my templates so here it goes:

1. i want to use autocad for drawing sketchs parts in assembly or part for creation on A3 or A4 with reqested standard and border/table

3d or other part creation i will still use inventor

in this case should i use model vew or layout view ?

2. how do you set a margins ive tried to find it but only thing that was a solution is drawing a rectangle from 0,0 to 408,285 :/ so i have 6mm margins from each side for A3 (i was told that the printer need min 6mm to print the sketch without resizing or moving some to another page)

3. i want to make a template looking like this with the table in the left down corner looking like this with the editable text everytime i want

can it be done with the draw>table option ?

4. if i use layers with colors different then black will i have gray lines when priting (or colors if i use a color printer) ?

btw.

why a fish for a CADTutor logo ?

it looks like a pike or a muskie not sure exacly i didnt go on fishing for ages

Model view. Draw (almost) everything in Model View. Stuff like drawing stamps and stuff you can have in Layout view

when in Model View, draw in 1:1 scale. Pick a unit, be it millimeters, meters, inches or feet - pick one that's suitable for you, and draw away. The margins and the page size and stuff you control via the Layout view and the Page Setup Manager

I'm not very familiar with the Table-command. When I need a table, I generally do it in Excel and import it in AutoCad. How about a dynamic block instead?

4. if i use layers with colors different then black will i have gray lines when priting (or colors if i use a color printer) ?

That depends on a lot of things. But broadly no. It is much easier to draw if you have different colors for the different layers. Then in the end, when you plot you can set all the colors to print black.

The fish is a mystery :)

i didn't ever try doing it in exel and importing but ill check it how it looks like and if you can edit the row and colum sizes and is it eable to insert 2 text messages with diffrent text size

but dynamic block how do you do that ?

I have an english version of autocad but i need polish letters can i install them ?

You can change it around a fair amount when you got it in AutoCAD. I haven't done it loads of times, and when I do I fiddle with it quite a lot to get it looking right so I couldn't tell you how it's done. Just that it can be done.

A dynamic block is a block that you insert like any other block but it has fields in them that you can change (like a title stamp - you change dates and locations and everything). They are handy when an outline is always the since but the information in the block changes.

Not a very good explanation perhaps, do a search on here for dynamic blocks - there are loads of information :)

Polish letters you say... I also have a english AutoCAD and use Swedish letters, in most fonts they work, what I type on the keyboard is what's displayed in AutoCAD. So try with a couple of different fonts to find one that works for you.

Other than that, I have a couple of Alt+-codes for my "funny letters" perhaps you do too? Can't remember what the Alt+-system is called, anyone else know?

I have no idea where to check what keyboard AutoCAD thinks you have...

I found THIS list of Alt+-codes (use the one under the Decimal heading) and bear in mind that it's a link to a blog so it might disappear without a moments notice.

You are using MText right?

On my machine, if I'm in a font that doesn't support the symbols, it'll switch to something that does.
