MikeP Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 this is how my drawings come in. what settings can i play with to improve the clarity Quote
ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Looks like a graphics card issue. What are the specs on the card? The make/model and the amount of onboard vidRAM would be helpful. Quote
MikeP Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 well for some reason uploading it made it look a little worse, but cetain edge lines are missing on the image. nvidia quadro fx 3450 card Quote
ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Do you have the latest drivers installed? When did you first notice the problem? Were images always that bad? Quote

ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Have you run the Performance Tuner to optimize your settings? Quote
MikeP Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Have you run the Performance Tuner to optimize your settings? i think it automaticly does that when i install 09 Quote
ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 The FX 3450 is a workstation level card. It comes with 256MB of GDRR3 SDRAM and it sits in a PCIe x16 slot on the motherboard. You have only one real option for drivers, since you are running AutoCAD 2009, and that is the OPENGL8.HDI accelerated driver that ships with AutoCAD. Don't use the nVidia PowerDraft driver as it won't work with recent releases of AutoCAD. Maybe you need to "tweak" a couple of settings. Quote

The driver may even be updated by now since this card was first released. ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 You have a workstation level card. I won't be recommending a new card at this point. Anyways, from what you've posted I doubt you are even using a fraction of the capability of the card. Maybe if you had drawn the space shuttle in 3D along with the booster rocket and tried to render it I'd feel differently. The nVidia website lists a new driver (39.5MB) for use with Windows XP. The release date was January 9, 2009. The driver does support your graphics card. Check your system. In AutoCAD type 3dconfig at the command line then press Enter. When the window comes up with the heading Adaptive Degradation and Performance Tuning displays click on the View tune log button to the right. When the Performance Tuner Log dialog window opens look at the section for 3D Device. What do the first six lines below that say? Quote
ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I've found a reference to a driver called PowerDraft 2009 at the PNY website but I haven't located the driver yet. I'll have to find out more before I could make a recommendation about it. Quote

As more graphics cards and 3D display drivers are tested, they are added to a list on the Autodesk website. You can check for updates and download the latest certification list at any time. Run the 3DCONFIG command and click the Check for Updates button. Current application driver: direct3d9.hdi Quote
ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 If you dare to go here (PNY website) you can download a POWERdraft.exe (application file) for XP. Look under the Software heading. http://www3.pny.com/support/support_landing_cat.aspx?SectionID=1061 Can't give you any further details because I haven't found any. I'd say buyer beware for the moment. Quote
ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Hmmm....direct3d9.hdi rather than the OpenGL8.hdi driver. I guess that's because AutoDesk is pushing Direct3D over OpenGL. I wonder if you could force the issue and make AutoCAD use the OpenGL driver since that's what your card was meant to use originally. Maybe the new driver release I mentioned somehow negates that and substitutes the Direct3D driver? Quote

ReMark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I mean I don't have enough info to advise you one way or the other. I did check AutoDesk re: your current graphics card driver (6.14.0011.6939). It's funny (weird) that when you expand the features listing and look at what it is available under OpenGL and under Direct3D one item stands out. Smooth line display is available under GL but not available under D3D. Quote
