Cannot Pan Past Left Edge of Monitor

Recommended Posts

I have searched both this forum and google, but with no luck.

I am having a minor problem with panning.

If you grab your drawing, and pan towards the edge of your monitor, you will notice the cursor (hand) will stop at the edge of the screen, however the drawing will keep panning (until you run out of desk space or reposition your mouse).

For some reason, I can only do this Up, Down and Right. At the left edge of my monitor the cursor AND the drawing will stop panning. I think this may be a machine setting, as it happens in both ACAD 2006 and 2008.

My co-workers machines all seem to be able to pan conitinuosly in all 4 directions.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You probably ran into your drawing limits. try multiplying the current limits by a factor of 10 or 100 and see if that works. Or, if you are zoomed in close, zooming to extents and zooming back in usually free up panning.

that was my first thought.

Drawing limits are not the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply though!

why not just reposition the mouse?

Jeez I just want to jump in here and make some smartasp comment but I'll refrain from doing so.

When did the problem first occur? Were you able to pan past the left edge previously?

I first noticed the problem after switching to MS Natural Mouse 7000 and installing Intellipoint Software.

I switched back to my wired MS Basic Optical and un-installed Inellipoint, but I still can't pan past the left edge.

However I honestly can't say whether or not it worked fine before the 7000/Intellipoint.

Only in AutoCAD or in other programs as well?

Have yo tried a REGEN or REGENALL

I'm not sure what other program would require me to pan past the edge of the monitor.

Regen/Regenall doesn't help.

Im still curious on how this affects you workflow?

Doesn't affect my work flow. Just a minor inconvenience.

Before I noticed this limitation, I was using a MS Basic Optical Wired mouse. Pressing the click-wheel for panning needed very little pressure and the response was very quick, so I was constantly releasing the wheel, repositioning the mouse, and re-engaging the click-wheel to pan around my drawing.

I recently changed to the MS Natural Wireless Mouse 7000. Pressing the click-wheel takes a bit more effort, and the response is slower (takes 1/2 a second to see the "pan hand" appear whereas the Basic Optical mouse was instantaneous).

I realized that once I had the wheel pressed and the "pan hand" appeared, I could just keep repositioning the mouse (without releasing the wheel) to constantly pan up, down and right. And that's when I noticed the "wall" at the left edge of my monitor.

Very minor and insignificant, and I may be going back to the Basic Optical as the wheel on the Natural Wireless is quite difficult to constantly press and release to pan around my drawings anyways (the 1/2 second lag is annoying too).

Anyways, thought someone may have encountered the same problem before and discovered a fix. No one in my office has, and every other machine can pan as far as they like, in all directions. I do have an extreme amount of customization on my machine, so I am assuming it must have something to do with that.
