lost0822 Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 A Co-worker of mine is having a problem with AutoCAD 2006 that i'm not sure how to fix. When trying to use symbols, i.e. %, diameter, he gets a question mark showing up in the text box then when he hits "OK" on the editor it always shows on screen as a fraction symbol and also prints out that way......no matter what symbol he uses. If i open the same drawing everything shows up fine for me and also prints out fine....again we both using 2006. i'm assuming it's a problem that started from installation of CAD. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be? Quote
Norts Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 this sounds like a fonts issue. ensure he has the same fonts installed on his machine that you do. Quote
Norts Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Hey, Blue......what's where, mate? que? I meant to add: 1. check that the contents of the folder C:\windows\fonts\ is identical on both machines. 2. check FONTALT and FONTMAP are to the same settings on both machines. Quote
lost0822 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 que? I meant to add: 1. check that the contents of the folder C:\windows\fonts\ is identical on both machines. 2. check FONTALT and FONTMAP are to the same settings on both machines. 1. My coworker tried copying the Fonts folder from my windows folder but for some reason it won't allow it.....says "Cannot copy arial. The requested operation cannott be preformed on a file with a user map section open". I had CAD shut down and everything else shut down besides IE (to look at this thread) and windows explorer. 2. We checked FONTALT and we have the same thing....then we did FONTMAP and we have different paths because we both use independent versions of AutoCAD 2006. Quote
lost0822 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 Is he using DTEXT or MTEXT...? We both use MTEXT Quote
Guest Alan Cullen Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 oooooooo.....I'll just stand back here and watch.......I didn't know my mate could speak French.........go for it, mon ami........ Quote
Guest Alan Cullen Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Okay....the code required for certain things in DTEXT is different in MTEXT......in DTEXT to get the diameter symbol you type %%c....you don't do that in MTEXT........can't actually remember what you type in MTEXT......but I'm sure Blue will tell me very shortly........ Quote
lost0822 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 UPDATE: we use a template drawing that we use for are dwg's. He just noticed that if he opens up a generic made dwg using a premade AutoCAD template everything comes up fine....but when using our's it comes up random. I took the template from my file and gave it to him but it still continues to happen when he uses are template we made up. remember none of this is happening to me at all. Quote
dbroada Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 what font file is being used to give the ? response? You may need to copy just that file. I recently had a problem on my machine where some Russian text was not displaying correctly where it was fine on everybody elses. It turned out that my machine had simplex.shx & simplex8.shx so when AutoCAD updated itself it didn't update my simplex file. Renaming my simplex8 to simplex cured the problem. Yours possibly won't copy ariel as it is in use by windows. Font files are handled in a unique way! Quote
Bailey Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Okay....the code required for certain things in DTEXT is different in MTEXT......in DTEXT to get the diameter symbol you type %%c....you don't do that in MTEXT........can't actually remember what you type in MTEXT......but I'm sure Blue will tell me very shortly........ Hi i'm having a simaler problem. When i do %%c in DTEXT i get a diameter symbole but in MTEXT i get a ? so dose anyone knoew what the coad in MTEXT should be?? Oh by the way i'm using 2008 thanks Paul Quote
dbroada Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 %%c works here. A ? often means that character isn't in the font file. What font are you specifying? Quote
dbroada Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 that's what I us. Have you tried using the insert|symbol option within your MTEXT editor? Quote
mikman Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 So I am having this same problem with 2004. I recently had my machine wiped out by a virus so it was restored and all the software reinstalled and after all that now my fonts won't read so I get the question marks. I have scoured this forum for answers and this thread seems to be the best related one, but there is no response on how anyone fixed the issue? I am using simplex.shx and am unable to understand why it won't read. The guy next to me has no problems with this and if I switch computers the font works fine. So if anyone has any more tips or maybe I missed something in this post, please let me know! Quote
