amanda phillips Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I have been having problems when triming to a line. When i trim the line that i am trimming seems to break instead of trimming and always leaves a section of line above the trim point. Did that make any sence???.... Its not easy to explain. The drawing was origninally a dxf file that i have saved as a dwg file. Thanks for any help Amanda Quote
amanda phillips Posted July 6, 2007 Author Posted July 6, 2007 hi i am trying to trim to a series of straights that i have converted to a pline. Quote
SLW210 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Can you possibly post up a .DWG file so it could be given a good look? Just the portion you are having trouble with will be fine. Quote
amanda phillips Posted July 6, 2007 Author Posted July 6, 2007 Please find attached a .dwg file showing the problem. Thanks:D example.dwg Quote
Cymro Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Loaded the drawing and the lines trimmed ok with no problems. Quote
Cad64 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Change your EDGEMODE variable to 0. You will want to change it back to 1 after you finish trimming these lines. Quote
PS_Port Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Amanda, sorry to say everything trims fine this end (Acad2004) btw the supplied example .dwg 'example of what happens' isn't even trimmed to the line ?? Regards Paul Quote
Strix Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 the example given seems to show that you've trimmed one solid line only to find another with a different linetype underneath choose a command such as move or copy, and use a crossing window to select your line (don't use a single click - it has to be the window) and it should tell you how many elements there are there Quote
Cad64 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 See my previous post. It's a simple switch of the EDGEMODE variable. From the Autocad Help Files: 0 = Uses the selected edge without an extensions 1 = Extends or trims the selected object to an imaginary extension of the cutting or boundary edge Your polyline has many edges, so when you select it as the cutting edge and try to trim the intersecting lines, the lines are trimming to the imaginary extensions of the cutting edge. Switch EDGEMODE to 0 and you will be able to trim the lines easily. Just set it back to 1 when you are finished trimming. Quote

Cad64 Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Setting EDGEMODE to 1 allows you to Trim/Extend to an imaginary edge. For example, say you have a horizontal line and a vertical line. You want to Extend the vertical line up to the horizontal line, but the vertical line is not directly underneath the horizontal line so it will never meet the horizontal line at any point. With EDGEMODE set to 1, you can extend the vertical line up to an imaginary extension of the horizontal line. Does that make sense? Quote
New2CADmike Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Yes it does make sense!!...Until this thread i didnt know there was a variable of edgemode...Mine has always been set to 0,because I did not know it was there to change..Thanks again Cad 64..Mike Quote
Guest Alan Cullen Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 But bear in mind......in some situations setting edgemode to 1 can also create other problems and results you weren't ready for......so learn about it and be careful....... Quote
stemhill Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 :( Anyone know anything else I could try? Flatten, audit, recover, changing the UCS back to W, none of those worked. Quote
SLW210 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 What are you wanting to do? Can you post the drawing file? Quote
