ezra Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Can someone here please tell me how to get a sheen on my material selection I usually select Nickel for metal objects, but I get a real dull surface. I am using version 2019, Thank you, Ezra Quote
Cad64 Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 I don't use Solidworks, but in other 3D programs you typically need a light source and some sort of environment in order to see metallic materials properly. If you're just using basic ambient lighting then metal materials generally look dull like that. Does Solidworks allow you to use HDR images for lighting? If so, load up an HDR and your metal material should look a lot better. Quote
Cad64 Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Here's an example of what I'm talking about. In my 3D program, I've created a sphere and applied a polished nickel material to it. In the first image I'm using standard ambient lighting and you can see it looks more like a plastic ball than a metal one. In the 2nd image, I'm using an HDR image for the environment and now you can see that it looks like a polished metal ball. Quote

SLW210 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 You need to adjust your environment. You'll probably find some good help on Solidworks forum if you need a step by step, maybe something on YouTube. Quote
