NIEKO Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 HI I have the following problem in Autocad2018 with "Automatic Save File Location" I have created the following file folder in Explorer C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autocad 2018\ACADSAVE This is where I would like my autosave files to be stored So in the "Options" under the heading "Automatic Save File Location" I have put the following path - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autocad 2018\ACADSAVE So now when "Autosave" comes up I get the following "WARNING: Cannot generate an unique autosave filename in directory C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autocad 2018\ACADSAVE . Autosdave is cancelled." In my previous Autocad 2013 this method worked fine without any problem Any suggestions as to ehy this happens and how can I rectify the problem Thanks in advance Appreciated Nieko Quote
ammobake Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 I think it could be a permissions issue with the autodesk folder. From what I am seeing, by default, C:\ProgramFiles\Autodesk\ Does not allow full control to the local user account (local administrators only). You would want read/write permissions on your user account at minimum. If you don't see your user account listed, you would want to manually add it, allow read/write access, and retest. the default temp folder for autocad is in the appdata folder on your user account. Since it's on your user account anyway it will allow you full control without having to do anything. (including read/write permissions). So usually it's not an issue. -ChriS Quote
BIGAL Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Mine is "D:\Acadtemp" and have a batch file to clean up every now and then. Much easier to manage as out side Windows Administrator rights. Quote
ammobake Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 ahhh so you are using your backup drive for this purpose? not bad idea. I have an old seagate external drive from 2007 that I once used for all my autocad and company files but at some point it failed. I can still mount the drive in windows sometimes and see the files/folders. I just can't open or move anything... I think it might be total loss. Quote

I've used it to salvage files from corrupted drives before. It recovers everything not written over. It is usually a boot sector or file table failure anyway, easy to get around. You may have to get an adapter plug for internal disks. That old external should be a piece of cake. Edited July 16, 2020 by Dana W mobetta grammar. Quote
