not sure if this is a bug or not but have noticed when i type ex it seems to run a slightly different command to when i type extend.

i can't get EX to stay on quick mode for some reason.. everytime i try extend a line it stops at some invisible fence and i need to click multiple more times to get it to go where i want (i know i can choose the fence line to specify where i want it to extend to but shouldn't need to do that if there aren't any other visible objects that should be stopping it)

when i run 'ex' i get settings below

when i run 'extend' i get these settings

i have set up one of my mouse buttons to type out 'extend' as a workaround but would like to know if the ex and extend commands are supposed to be different. I've tried do a little research and everything i've seen seems to imply that they should run the same. would also like to know if its possible to make them the same?

i'm using autocad 2021

Have you got any Mtexts nearby?

If the width of the Mtext is specified, but the text does not fill up the space, the 'box' for the Mtext will be a barrier when you use Extend without choosing a boundary.

'Ex' is a Command Alias for 'Extend' so they should work exactly the same.

I get the same with both EX and Extend. Same as your Extend command.

Are you running any LISP or other add-ons? Did you check the Command Alias Editor?

As SLW210 says,

Has one of these commands been redefined so it defaults to Quick, and the other uses Standard (is that even possible without lisp as the Edgemode setting is also different)?

ah, thanks for letting me know that ex/extend should do the same thing. i thought as much. didn't make sense when they didn't so thought i'd query it here..

and yeh i run an absolute stack of various lisp routines which have all been used at one stage or another over the past 15ish years.

i don't get why i can't change it off 'standard' mode using ex. there is a good chance that something in my lisp routines may be affecting it. finding out which one is the next thing i guess.. to my knowledge i've never set up anything intentionally which specifies these quick/standard modes. i've only just found out about these modes recently. they're new(ish) to autocad yeh?

i've searched my main lsp doc for the word "extend" and made sure there was nothing there causing it but i've got heaps of other separate lsp files which get loaded up also which could specify something.. i think next step now is to try starting up cad without any lisps and see if it works properly and if it does then load a few lisp routines in at a time and hopefully i can pinpoint the culprit
