cwall25 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 I am trying to click & drag layers, blocks, etc. from one open drawing to another open drawing using the DesignCenter. However, it will not let me drag the layers, block, etc. to the other open drawing. I have tried selecting the objects and copying them. Then when I go to the other drawing to paste them, paste is not an option. According to other posts that I have read, this is the easiest way to copy/transfer objects from one drawing to another. Do I have a setting that prevents me from copying over objects? I would like to use the DesignCenter. Please, I need help! Quote
Amber D Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 are you using the "copy object" tool or the "copy" and "paste" tools that are on your toolbar next to "save," etc? The copy and paste that are present in word, excel, etc. should let you move layers, blocks, etc. from one drawing to the other, but the "copy object" tool will not. Quote
cwall25 Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 I am using the copy and paste similar to Word, Excel, etc. After selecting the items, I have tried hitting Control+C and also right-clicking and selecting Copy. However, when I go to paste it in the other drawing under the cooresponding folder by hitting Control+V or by right-clicking, it will not paste. When I right-click to get the menu to paste, paste is not even an option given to me. When I try to drag the object between drawing, I get a circle that has a slash through it immediately. Quote
Amber D Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Do you have the paste button up there next to the copy button? Mine are on the top toolbar, on the left side next to save. That's the only way it ever works for me, by using the bottons. Right clicking, etc. won't work. Quote
cwall25 Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 I tried that, but when I hit the copy button, it wants me to select objects in the drawing window in the background, same wih the paste. It worked when I right-clicked and copied, then hit the paste button like you were talking about. However, I can't copy over the blocks. The only way I could copy the layers was to right-click and hit copy, however, it won't let me select copy when I am on the layers. Something seems wrong like it is trying to block me from copying these objects over. Quote
stevsmith Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Which image looks like the page you are trying to grab from? . Quote
stevsmith Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 The 2nd page is what will come up when you double click on the blocks icon. You cannot simply drag the "blocks" icon from image 1, you have to open this and individually select or range select from the blocks in page 2. I hope ive described this ok (Edit) HAHA.... ok Image 1 will not let you drag. Image 2 will let you drag and copy. Quote
cwall25 Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 I have tried both images. I thought that the first image is the one that I needed to do though. Whenever I start to drag the object (layer or block), I get a circle with a slash through it, similar to the picture below. It seems like I am blocked from copying or dragging. Are there any settings, or do I need to reinstall? I am lost and I would like to use this feature. Quote
cwall25 Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 I feel dumb!!! You are the man. That has worked on everything I have tried. Thanks so much, you have made my life easier. Quote
