W3D Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Is it, or will it ever be possible to pause a render in autocad. I use my home pc for more than just 3d modelling/rendering so it would be very usefull if i were able to pause anything i'm rendering and resume at a more suitable time. Majority of my renders don't take that long, but sometimes i would like to render a walkthrough animation of a scene i have modelled, and this means that the pc will be tied up for a decent amount of time. Kim Possible Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 The only way I can think of to do this, is to set up a Batch Render. That way you can run it overnight. I've been teaching AutoCAD since version 14 and I have never run across any other way to do this. Sorry. Quote
W3D Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 what if my render is to take 24hrs for example? The main thing I would like to do is pause and resume, however I have always assumed this wasn't possible anyway as I've never been able to find this particular option/command. (I'm posting this question just incase this feature does exist and i've just missed it somehow) Quote
ReMark Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Why pause and resume? What difference does it make if the process runs continuously? Quote
W3D Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 ..so that i can run a render through the night, but then pause it when i need to use the computer for something else if it hasn't finished yet...and then resume the render when i'm finished with the computer. This isn't a big problem, so if it isn't possible I'm not bothered. I just thought it would be usefull. Quote
ReMark Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 No, the render cannot be paused while you work on something else. If the computer is robust enough you can render and at the same time work on a spreadsheet. Quote
W3D Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Oh right, not a problem. I have 8GB of RAM, Q6600@3.4ghz, HD4870 1GB GPU etc.. so it will handle something simple like that; but I use my pc for gaming and bluray movies also which is why i require the processing power. The easy answer would just be to use another computer but it would have been convenient this way. Thanks for your help anyway. Quote
ReMark Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Well I would not recommend trying to do a complex render while gaming or playing a BlueRay movie at the same time. You may end up with your computer locking up. Quote
W3D Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 ofcourse I'm not going to try that lol, this is exactly why i asked if it was possible to pause. I will just have to be patient with my complex renders unless they add this feature in any future versions of autocad. Quote
Hedgehog Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 If you're using Vista I wonder what would happen if you swapped profiles, i.e. don't log off but swap users. Quote
W3D Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 I imagine it would continue to run Quote
ReMark Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Try a search on "Architecture 2009"+"hyperthreading". Quote
Hedgehog Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I imagine it would continue to run Hmmm... it pauses other apps & resumes when you sign back in... I'll give it a go tonight Quote
W3D Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Hmmm... it pauses other apps & resumes when you sign back in... I'll give it a go tonight ok thanks, let me know how you get on. I am running Vista 64, however I have never used multiple accounts on vista, only on XP so I am interested to hear your results. Quote
Hedgehog Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Failed ... it paused the processing... & crashed the render... got a nice greyed out bitmap. Ah well... back to the drawing board Quote
ReMark Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh..............crashed and burned. That sucks dude. Quote
W3D Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 oh well, thanks for trying anyway. Quote
pattyandme Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 How about breaking your render up into 1/2's and then combining them in somthing like moviemaker ? Quote
