Giovanni Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Using autocad 2018 I made a new project nearby an existing building. From "insert" I clicked on the world sphere and found the geolocation of my existing building with the coordinates format I want. In the present situation I have my drawing on top of the map correctly placed. My question is how to find the coordinates of any point on my project. Autocad gives me only "latitude" and "longitude" (of the drawing I suppose). I want real world coordinates like for example those used by google (but for my not existing yet new building, not an existing one) . Is there a solution to it? Thank you. Quote
BIGAL Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 If your using CIV3d you can set your display to X Y Z rather than Lat Long but you have to set where you are in the world and a zone. Been a while as I only worked in 1 zone. IT may be part of MAP also. Do a google display XYZ not Lat Long. Just a comment, if you take what you have done and use a RTK Gps to set out the new building I doubt it will be where it should be. There is not the accuracy in the image. To work correctly you really need to get true world LAT LONG of the existing building. Ie get a surveyor. Quote
Giovanni Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 Thank you. I was hopping find the coordinates with autocad or autodesk map 3d or Revit. In Autocad when you open the map in order to put the pin there is the option to chose between more than 20-30 different formats of coordinates. Why they give you this option when there is no further use of it? Quote
tombu Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 You cannot represent a sphere in a rectangular coordinate system. While AutoCAD Map 3D can work with "latitude" and "longitude" local coordinate systems that have been projected so that grid distances match close enough to distances measured on the ground they work well in plans. The state I live in is separated into 3 different state plane coordinate systems. You need to place your building and other drawings into the correct local coordinate system for the project you're working on. Quote
BIGAL Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 I live in Australia and did you know its moving ? Every few years the zone factors are changed to compensate for this. I am not a surveyor but put in wrong zone and you will be in the house next door. Quote
