Why the two identical layout tabs in paperspace?

okay, so i think i am making headway with autocad.... though i have some basic questions that i need help with. Unfortunately due to my location I am unable to get books and can barely make a download of anything over 2 and under 3MB so e-books are out of question.

the concerns and queries I have are as follows.

1) when setting units at the beginning will that affect all measurements from model and paperspace? IE: if i set the units to meters and i draw a rectangle with the following 0,0 and 4,8 will that give me a four meter by 8 meters rectangle in paperspace?

2) in paperspace there are always 2 layout tabs....identical. WHY???

3) in paperspace there is a white background, a dashed line rectangle and a solid rectangle with in the dashed. what are these two rectangles?

there are many more, but these are the ones i am trying to solve now.

Re: No. 2. That's the AutoCAD default and they are only identical until you use Page Setup Manager to change one. If it bugs you that much then right click on the Layout 2 tab and select Delete from the pop-up list.

Joffy - this forum runs as a resource for CAD users everywhere, many of whom never register with us, many who find their way in via a google search, and some of whom post with us regularly

Pllleeeeaaasssseee use one thread per question

For starters we have software which will automatically look for similar threads for you which may result in instantaneous answers (or better still use the search facility first), and for seconds sticking to one topic per thread stops everybody from getting in a muddle replying to each other (besides, some people stop reading threads and won't contribute if they're 'messy' - and CAD people like things 'tidy' if they're good at their job  )

I'll split your thread up for you this time
