If you have played around with 3dmax or viz this almost works the same way, there are no rules to lighting and it takes time to learn, I would suggest turning off the shadows until you have a feel to setting up the lights

In Inventor Studio select lighting styles you can use a existing style to get you going then alter it to your liking, play around with moving the light and setting it to the target adding more lights etc, the materials you have on your model will also affect the light.

Yip, bit of trial and error. Starting dark and then building up is how I teach it.

The lighting in Studio is a monster just like Max and Autocad, so take your time.

I have some problems with scene setup in Inventor Studio 2011. The standard backgrounds behave weird. In the viewport everything seems to be ok. For example the background "old warehouse" In the viewport I can fully control it; move, rotate etc. In the dialog box for a scene style I choose Old warehouse and I have no idea how to setup that background in order to get accurate picture after rendering If I choose a background (current) before rendering on the picture I have nothing from the defined viewport but grey gradiens field. If I use a defined new scene style I can't control it I mean rotate move and scale
