Gary_W Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Hi Guys, I have a bit of a problem with a dynamic block. I have attached a basic sample of the problem. The block in question only uses the Rotate & Stretch commands. The problem is with this block & the more complex one I use is as follows: If you stretch the block in any direction before you rotate it everything works fine, but if you rotate the block and then stretch it the stretched area's do not stretch at 90Deg to the block, they go off on an odd tangent... I suspect it's something simple, but I've tried a few things and I get the same result. Any Ideas??? Gaz... Dynamic Block Problem.dwg Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Linear parameters do not go well with rotation parameters. You will not get them to agree on anything. The only solutions I've found in the past for this is to either replace the stretch and rotate with a polar stretch, or add a point specifically as a base point of rotation for the rotation command, leaving the stretch by itself. If anyone has any other ways of dealing with this I would very much like to know as I could use it in some variable pitch/length roof details I've attempted in the past. Quote
Gary_W Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 The "very" odd thing is this actually used to work 100% in the past... Then for some reason it would not work on my templates I use, but it would work on the on the basic templates shipped with AutoCAD, but now it won't work at all on any templates??? Gaz... Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I had a look at your bock, and if you're looking for some break lines try the ones I've attached below. The pair can be turned on or off independantly and they include a wipeout between them to cover up any linework, so no trimming required. Rotation must be done through the regular rotate command, and they can be scaled to make the actual "break" in the line larger/smaller. One word of warning, this file was WBLOCKed out, so you cannot open it by itself. Save it to your block directory and insert it into your file as needed. Breaklines with Wipeout (dynamic).dwg Quote
Gary_W Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 It's not really line breaks I'm after, this was just and example to give an idea of what I was on about. The block I use is for two UB's which flip, rotate stretch in wall thickness direction and stretch in length "which now does not work" with the rotate... But thanks for your input Maxwell... Gaz... GE13579 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 All I can suggest is that you rotate the block with the ROTATE command instead of the parameter. Otherwise, if you're using standard rotation angles you could set a series of visibility parameters but I'm not sure that's suitable in this instance. Quote
kool130 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 hi Gary... Try this modified block of yours. what i did is..Fix the rotation parameter and action FIRST! then the stretch parameter and action. i also include increment of 15 deg rotation. peace out. Breakx.dwg Quote
Gary_W Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Hi Kool130, Thanks for your help. I can clearly see where I have gone wrong now, Doh!!! I wasn't starting the stretch parameter from the centre of the rotation, I was starting it from edge of the break symbol... Easy when your shown how to Gaz... Quote
Magnum Z Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Deselect the two Stretch Actions from the included selection set under the Rotate action. To do this, double click the Rotate Action bolt, type 'R' for remove, and select the two Action bolts for the Stretches. Works fine for me after you make that simple adjustment. Also just a tip, but you might also want to put the rotation handle in between the two ends of the break symbol so it's not sticking out in the middle of nowhere if you shorten the lines too close to the symbol. Not sure that'd be a big problem, but it might help getting a hold of it a bit easier when you need it. Quote
