Can AutoCAD 3D models be read, edited or modified by Solidworks or Pro/Engineer wildfire?

To open the AutoCAD model in SolidWorks, export it in ACIS format. That can be read by SW.

Maybe someone else can advice you about ProE.

SW has a dwg editor. I frequently bring dwg models into SW. Because Acad models dont have any feature info with them, they come in as dumb solids. The dwg importer lets you select layers you want to bring in. and if you want it to be a 2d or 3d model.
