grain Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 What do you know about multiblocks (Not sure of their proper name) A block for example such as a fire symbol which has a variety of interactive editing arrows around it when inserted into a drawing. One arrow includes the option to change the symbol within a group type. (In this case a variety of fire symbols). Other interactive arrow control rotation, size etc. I have to admit I dont know anything about them. The ones Ive come across have the link: http//wygcad.wyg.com which I have been unable to access. They look extremely useful. If anyone can put any light on the issue I would be: Quote
Dipali Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 It Sounds Like They Are 'dynamic Blocks'. I Have Not Learnt In Detail About Them Yet, But Some Of The Forum Member Really Priase It A Lot. Quote
kool130 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 yup its called "dynamic blocks"..Acad 2006 and up got this capability. it's fun to play around with it. chk these sites. http://www.caddigest.com/subjects/autocad/tutorials/blocks.htm http://learnacad.blogspot.com/2006/04/5-free-autocad-2006-dynamic-blocks.html Quote
ReMark Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 As kool130 mentioned, Dynamic Blocks, introduced in 2006, give the CAD user the ability to create and use blocks that can be changed in many ways. Some of those ways include stretching, rotating, changing views, moving objects within a block, arraying objects within a block, etc. Dynamic Blocks are manipulated using unique GRIPS. These grips give the user access to the "dynamic" features of the block. The features assigned to the block when it was created are the only ones available for editting. Quote
ReMark Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Some of the grips available with Dynamic Blocks include the normal selection grip, stretch (with restraints), rotate, flip (a.k.a. - mirror), align, array, and visibility. An added feature is the ability to use drop-downs and lookup tables (great for beam sizes). Important: Parameter + Action = Dynamic Block. Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 There is such a thing as a multview block as well. This is only available on the vertical products I believe (could be wrong here though). Basically they are a collection of blocks put together, and different blocks are displayed depending on the view selected. These are most often used by us for things like cabinets and appliances to show linework in plan view and the 3d block everywhere else (for renderings, etc...) Quote
grain Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Wow. That was a good set of responses. I havent checked the links yet but do these 'Dynamic Blocks' include drop down menus with alternative symbols within a group type. That seems a real time saving feature. Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 You can make a block with a set of different visibility states, each one could be a separate symbol if you so desired. Check out some of the samples in your installation directory, most likely C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2008\Sample\Dynamic Blocks) Looking at these in the block editor (BEDIT) along with AutoCAD's help file should give you a beginning to look at what they're capable of. Also, AUGI (Autodesk Users Group International) has a forum dedicated to dynamic blocks along with a section of examples. Quote
