Hi all again

If i use the make block command i will get all the options such as uniform scale and allow exploding, but if i just use wblock will it use the same settings?as they are missing in the wblock options and it seems a bit quicker doing that then renaming the block in the folder.

I mean is the end result the same whichever way i do it?.

Thnx

Wblock makes an external .dwg file from selected entities in the existing dwg, shouldn't be confused with the Block command... two separate animals.

I building a library of light fitting blocks so right now i make block-enter details save then wblock and choose the block i just made to save to dwg library. when i do this i get the options i listed above.

Now if i just use the wblock which saves the dwg to the same folder and then i just rename it to what i want, will the resulting dwg be the same ? its just with wblock i dont get the options so will it save the files the same. :? :? make block then wblock is a tad longer than just wblock.

Thnx

I suggest you try it both ways and check the characteristics of the blocks after you insert them into a new dwg.

What you're doing right now (Block then WBlock) probably results in the block being a double-block - as in, you have to explode it twice to get it back to just lines. Don't know if it affects anything though.

I think it will be enough with just WBlock though (You know that you can type in the appropriate name directly in the WBlock dialogue box right?), I*m not entirely clear what those settings do that you are referring too - but I think that it'll work just fine with just WBLock.

not quite right. If you WBLOCK or MBLOCK you have the option of selecting objects or an existing block. If you chose objects and the pick a block you will end up with an embedded block, if you just select the block name from the drop down list you will be OK.

By selecting "Block" in the WBLOCK dialog box, he's specifying to AutoCAD that it is a block, so AutoCAD saves the contents of the block as a seperate file. It does not create a double block like creating a block in its own file and saving it would. This is how you can save dynamic blocks as their own file too, the resultant dynamic block can be inserted into a drawing and modified without incident. However if you create a dynamic block in its own file and save it, it will need to be exploded upon insertion.

The downside to this is that a dynamic block saved in its own file this way defaults to the block editor upon opening, as it is little more than authoring elements. This should be addressed in ACAD2010 as they are adding a "test window" to the block editor as a sandbox to test your parameters and actions.

Now as to your actual question, I agree that you should try a few test blocks to make sure it is working as you desire. I just wanted to make sure the big mean Tiger didn't scare you away from your method

P.S. Just kidding Tigersharko:)
