voxivera Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Hello! Has anyone some good advices what is the easiest way to draw a turbine blade profile from a picture? I mean that I've only scanned pictures from profiles and there are only very few measurements available. For example, in a picture there is only one dimension known and that doesn't even refer to the profile itself. Instead it is a dimension of the blade's root. I've already tried SPLINE but the result isn't as good as hoped. I use cad2002 / Mechanical Desktop Power Pack. -V Quote
ReMark Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Wind turbine? Jet engine? Power generator? Can you be a bit more specific? Quote
voxivera Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 The pictures are from a large steam turbine. And the drawings are quite old, some decades. That is why some lines in the pictures do not have so high resolution. Quote
ReMark Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Sounds doubtful given the lack of information. Any reference to the manufacturer that supplied the steam turbine? Is the equipment still in use today? What is the reason behind your question? Quote
voxivera Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 The reason is that I’m doing my master thesis about this turbine and I would need the blade profile information to performance calculations. The turbine is in use. I’ve got some dimensions known from the manufacturer but just some few and I am not sure to which bladecascades these numbers are related. Quote
ReMark Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 You say the turbine has been around for awhile. At some point in its life a blade or two must have been replaced. Who did the work? Can you get in touch with someone at the company who serviced the turbine and maybe track down a replacement blade? With very few measurements on hand at the moment I don't see how you could make even a semi-accurate drawing of the blade. From the old drawings you do have how many views of a typical blade are shown? Quote
voxivera Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 There are blade profile pictures from the root and the tip, from stators and rotors. Quote
