Upgrading from ADT 06 to Architecture 09

Hello Board,

Glad to be here!!

I, like a lot of old timers, have a hard time making change. I know it took the architecture firm I used to work for 5 years to upgrade from 14 to ADT 3.3; and then everyone pitched a fit. Soon after, I left the firm and purchaced ADT 04, 05, 06 and AutoCAD 07.

Now I am in a situation like alot of you I guess; in a position that I want to upgrade OS but cant unless I upgrade my AutoCAD. My reseller has sent me the demos for 08 and 09 and I really dont like the new interface.

I guess my question is, is it worth the hassle(or is it a hassle getting used to the new software) of the upgrade.

I would like ya'lls input.

Thanks

from 07 to 80 meh, not that much of a difference, but from 07-09 there are defiantly some GREAT improvements in work flow. ACA 09 does not have all of the ribbon interface yet, it is still the same ole with some ribbon thrown in. 2010 will have the full ribbon interface. It took some getting used to, but 09 is very good.

For me, Definetly worth it.

2009 fixes many issues that 2008 has (like excessive XREF scales) and has some nice new functionalities.

ADT 2006 seems prehistory some months after you use ACA 2009

I have AutoCAD Arch at school, I HATE THE UI!!! At home I am still using AutoCAD Arch 2008. 2008 Is my favorite version...

2009 Takes up to much ram and i need as much RAM as I can get...However, by upgrading you can improve your drawing speed (your Proficiency)

Hope this helps, By the way, If you upgrade to 2010, it is also a new user interface, better than 2009...but keep in mind that this is also the new DWG file format!! (I learned that the hard way!!)

Let me know if you need any other help and what you choose to do!!!

Take Care

I have grown quite fond of the 09 UI, it gives me tons of new screen space (which they take away again with 2010) I am mostly a typer though. I have my properties, quickcalc, and Xref palettes on the far left, and my working tool palettes on the far right, all auto set to minimize. The only thing on the top of my screen is my layer properties and visual styles. Everything else is handled by keyboard :)

The 2010 ribbon is pretty nifty though, it takes up too much space and has some lag to maximize when it is set to auto hide. But all in all, it is a good implementation.

I'm glad you are happy with '09. A quick question...Do you use the Ribbon, or is your workspace set to AutoCAD classic?

it is a mixture of both. I have certain ribbon panels torn off and next to my tool palettes. With 2010 I have been using the ribbons.

Very interesting, I havent had much time to mess with 2010, but does it have the normal tool? Are you able to Migrate the settings in to 2010?
