johnengineer Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 AutoCAD requires me to save my drawings before eTransmitting. Is there a way to avoid this? I do not want to change the modification date of the drawings. Quote
ReMark Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 When I invoke eTransmit the first dialog box to appear onscreen says: The current drawing is not saved. Do you want to save the current drawing before continuing? Yes...No...Cancel. Most of the time I just click on "No" and move on to the Create Transmittal dialog box. Quote
johnengineer Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 I am using AutoCAD 2008. When I invoke eTransmit the first dialog box to appear onscreen says: You must save changes before continuing with eTransmit. Save changes to .dwg? Ok.....Cancel Quote
ReMark Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Well obviously we are seeing two different things. The question is why? Quote
ReMark Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I got in the way-back-machine and opened 2007. I then invoked the eTransmit command. Guess what I got? You must save changes before continuing with eTransmit. Save changes to namethatdrawing.dwg? Can we assume that enough people like yourself complained at some point about this to convince AutoDesk to change the way the command operates in AutoCAD 2009? Quote
ReMark Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 This is totally bizarre. I went back even further and opened 2004 and tried the eTransmit command. No message what-so-ever about saving the drawing first AND the only option available was to save as an executable file (.exe file extension). Well that just sends my head spinning. Not sure what to make of it. Quote
ReMark Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Lynn Allen (you know who she is right?) in her AutoCAD Tips and Tricks article re: AutoCAD 2009 mentions the fact that "You no longer have to save your drawing when using the eTransmit command." At least that clears up one item. Maybe you'll have to use a workaround if no one can come up with a way to disable this annoying feature. Save the drawing using a combination of the original drawing name and the date of the transmittal. If you make multiple transmittals of the same drawing over a period of time you'll have an exact record of each time it was done. Something along the lines of ClientX_ProjectDrawing 3-11-09.dwg. tzframpton Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 just do an Undo after you create the eTransmit. Quote
kdispoto Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 On a similar note (btw- I use acad 2008) I have the same saving issue of needing to save the open drwing when starting etransmit. My work-around - I typically start a new blank dwg "Drawing1", start etransmit, save "Drawing1" as required by etransmit, add my actual project drawings to the etransmit list and then remove "Drawing1" from the etransmit list. This way avoids saving and changing the date of the project drawings. Quote
