Monopolising this forum to learn more

Right, I am going to monopolise this forum for a while (please let me know if i get tiresome or boring). I have learnt some basics and think i understand the principles of ADT and am now going to throw away the books and try for myself to learn as much as i need to produce some simple 3-d, elevations, floor plans and sections of my domestic extensions. If it is good enough for bigger projects its good enough for me!!!!

I am going to start by making a Tool Pallette with all aspects that i think i will need.

Then i am going to create all the wall types i envisage - this will include a wall with a strip footing on it.

I will start by creating the external wall of the existing building - this (from now on) will be measured/surveyed from corner to corner and then windows positioned afterwars. At the moment i measure from corner to window, from window to window, from window to corner (if that makes sense!!).

Adding the styles for internal walls and positioning them should be straight forward.

Do i then repeat for the first floor? Adding a floor slab between them? Can i place these on top of each other in the same drawing or do i need to do the different constructs? Is it possible to creat a slab made up of concrete, insulation, screed etc? and similarly of timber joists and floor boards? - This would be useful for creating the sections.

Please let me know if i am starting off wrongly, i really want to master this beast!

This part of the forum is somewhat quiet, so post away.

use different constructs for each floor. The floor slab for the floor between them would be in its own construct as well for framing. You can pull structural members from the structural members catalog under the format pull down.

There is an addon for Autocad Architecture (you would need to upgrade to the newest version of ACA) called VisionRez, which allows you to do your entire project in one file.

Do i have to start a new project? I thought i would be able to start drawing the AEC objects in model space and create a drawing? Am i way off the mark?

different constructs are within the project itself. IE project navagator.

here is a link to the Autodesk univiersity classes for Autocad Architecture, they only go back to 2006 so there might be some stuff in there that is not in your 2005 version. Signup is free, as are the classes they have online.

This might be a good place to start to get project setup and workflow going well
