HI I WAS WANDERING IF ANYONE COULD HELP I WAS WANDERING HOW YOU DRAW THE HANDRAIL GOING UP A SPIRAL STAIRCASE IN AUTOCAD 2004 IV DRAWN THE TREADS AND RAILS GOING UP BUT AM HAVING DIFFCULTY DRAWING THE HND RAIL (TRUTH IS I HAVENT GOT A CLUE:cry: )

Take a look at the bottom of this page. See where it says Similar Threads? Take a peak at the one entitled "Extruding handrail profile along a 3D path problems". You might also want to check out the other threads as well. Simply put...the question has been asked and answered. Never underestimate the power of a search either. many thanks for your advice i have looked at the simlar threads but at the moment im still stumped im completly new at 3d and i can't get my spline to go up in a spiral on top of each rail which is the pink line in "extruding handrail profile along a 3d path problem" i can't even do the 3d path it's probally very easy to do but unless you know the answer it's hard

Did you take a look in the AutoLISP archive (this site) at the helix LISP routine? It might be to your benefit.

If you can , try to upgrade to cad 2007. it comes with helix that might be to your advantage

Like Re Mark I posted a soloution some time ago but here it is again in brief a spiral stair case is basicly a single tread copied raised and rotated the only tricky bit is the hand rail.

 

If I remember right you can cheat on the hand rail by drawing an arc then rotate3d to the correct rise angle trim to equal the correct angle and put on top of a hand rail post. Its not mathmatically correct but looks correct.
