Hi,

does anyone know how to fillet two parrellel lines without creating an arc? so you basically end up with a rectangle/ square?

cheers,

When using the FILLET command on two parallel lines, AutoCAD creates a half circle connecting the two ends. This is the way it is set up to work. AutoCAD calculates the radius based upon the distance between the two lines even if you set radius equal to zero. At least that's the way I understand it to work. Maybe I'm wrong.

Perhaps you will have to draw a line from one line, perpendicular to the other line, just like the rest of us

The horror...the horror!

ok, so thats a no then!! :)

Remarks correct even if the radius is set to zero it still creates a radius.

cheers for the help tho.

Well, you could fillet the parallel lines, then turn the resulting arc into a polyline, then de-curve the polyline. But I would go for drawing a line in the first place o:)

Do I sense a need for a LISP routine that creates the result that you're looking for? I wonder how that would be set up?

Why go to all that trouble when line drawn from endpoint to endpoint will do it? L enter pick pick (assuming endpoint snap is turned on) enter...the deed is done.

UNLESS...the lines are parallel but not the same length, or at least have endpoints that don't line up. The original question if I recall correctly said something about the new line being perpendicular to the original 2 (creating a rectangle or square I believe was the wording)...you'd need to stretch the short end up to meet the perpendicular line in that event.

Thought about this a bit more, and if the parallel lines are being drawn at a specific distance every time, you could use a multiline style that closes the ends. Just be mindful of how you set up the style so it draws it in the right place. Then you could draw it an any length or angle and the ends would always be perpendicular to the sides.

Hi, i ended up deleting everything and then drawing it once then used array, then found out everything couldnt be spaced equally so then had to stretch each line into position.

the reason i had asked the question was i had set the whole drawing out using construction lines then used fence trim and it only took a minute to set out this fairly big drawing. i could have left the construction lines then went back and copied over them with multi line and then deleted the construction line but as i had all the construction lines all set out i was hoping the was a command that would have allowed me to select two parrallel lines at a time and each end would draw joined together with straight lines, like fillet but with out the radius.

i mite do a vba thing as i draw a lot of curtain walling etc.

the reason i dont simply draw a line is that for each two parrallel lines you need 4 screens clicks that times 100 or so is a lot compared to simply selecting 2 lines with a crossing window and them being automatically joined together, plus the time saved by not having to be to presice in where you click on the screen compared to drawing lines, also you save panning time, zooming in and out etc.

cheers for the input

I thought maybe you were drawing curtainwall. Been there done that!

You could still use your construction lines in conjunction with the multiline for that. For instance, if you are drawing a 6" system depth in plan view, just put your construction line at the middle of where the curtain wall would be. Then use a multiline that offsets 3" each side of center(justification zero) and draw from one intersection to the next. If you put your construction lines on a layer all their own, you can simply freeze all the other layers, and erase all your construction lines at once.

You can do the same with other system depths as well, and in fact you could put all of the multiline styles you work with in your template and they'd be there every time. You could even do something similar for the infill. If you have laminated glass, that could be a multiline that draws all the laminations at once. As far as that goes, you could draw the mullions in the elevation views the same way. Multilines are easier to get along with than rectangles for that, or so I've found. Rectangles want to be drawn horizontal or vertical. Multilines don't care. The drawback will be if you have to do a miter joint where an angled horizontal member meets a vertical member or something like that. You'll have to explode your multiline and move the endpoints around, or draw a closed polyline to make the miter look right.

Hope this does you and/or someone else some good. Just some ideas that I've used in the past.

Hi Jack,

yes i use mlines a lot to be honest.

i have set them up for DGU(including lam). transoms and mullions at different thickness profile. window cills with radius on the end, 9mm plaster & render , etc etc all very handy and a the click of the button, i also use the fill function to save me hatching and as standard i use that to draw our flashings, works really well. I also use mline for a vba aplication i wrote for automating the drawing of the curtain walling. i am sure there are many other uses too.

i was just hoping there was also a option to use a command like filter without the radius as it would be a easier option to join two lines.

thanks for the taking the time to help.
